CLASSROOMS ON COUNTRY
HEALTHY RIVERS
Targeted at identified school students in Years 7 to 10, our Healthy Rivers workshop is the first in a series of Classroom on Country™ initiatives we are developing to strengthen students' knowledge of country.
Empowering Responsible Choices
Designed to empower students to look after inland rivers, this immersive experience provides participants with a deeper understanding of their role in preserving and protecting freshwater aquatic ecosystems.
Program Highlights
-
Environmental Awareness: Builds understanding around the guiding principles and values associated with looking after country.
-
Cultural Responsibility: Explores students' obligations to preserve inland rivers for future generations.
-
Hands-on Learning: Offers a practical fishing session where students can learn about sustainable fishing practices.
-
Habitat for Healthy Rivers: Gives students the opportunity to directly contribute to the health of a local waterway through participation in a habitat restoration project.
How do the workshops work?
-
Workshops last three hours, and a suitable local site will need to be identified. We are happy to assist with this process!
-
A minimum of 20 students per session is required, with a maximum of 30 students allowed.
-
The cost per student is $50.00. Every participant will receive a 'Respect the Past - Fish for the Future' Catch and Release Mat, proudly funded by the Aboriginal Fishing Trust Fund.
