WAMBUUL RIVER DREAMING
DUBBO NSW

Now, more than anytime before, we need to come together to conserve inland rivers for future generations.

We may not be around to hear them say thank you, but they will be forever grateful

The Wambuul (Macquarie River) has been central to life for Wiradjuri people for millennia. Come on a journey to discover their intimate connection with this unique waterway and learn about the current issues that are impacting the health of this once mighty river.

Rising in the Great Dividing Range near Bathurst the Macquarie river travels nearly 900 kilometers before entering the Macquarie Marshes, traditional country of the Wayilwan people and a Ramsar listed wetland of international importance. In times of high flow, it continues on to meet the Barwon River upstream of Brewarrina. Home to the endangered Trout cod, first described from a specimen taken from the river in 1829 recovery plans are in place to establish self-sustaining populations of the species throughout its former range.
